Jennifer Osborne

Felt and Stitch Wool Painting
Sunday June 9

Jennifer Osborne
Influenced by her 25+ years of artistic practice, combining wool from her farm, painting, and colour seemed like an obvious artistic exploration. Her current work is exploring the emotional impressions that the local landscape evokes using materials originating from that landscape.  Jennifer has shown at numerous shows and galleries across the province.  Being a farmer, the landscape is an integral part of both her agricultural and artistic life. Jennifer is head shepherdess at All Sorts Acres Farm, a pasture based sheep dairy that makes Happy Sheep Gelato - a sheep milk gelato using organic and local ingredients creating land-based flavours with no additives or preservatives.  She naturally processes and sells her own line of wool.  Her beautiful wool, along with her textiles and art can be found at her on-site farm store where she also gives monthly farm tours, and at a variety of farmers markets.

Felt and Stitch Wool Painting Workshop

Using the materials that are literally grown from the soil of the area, this 3 hour workshop will introduce students to the creative possibilities of using wool fibres and stitching as a creative medium. Needle felting is the art of using specialized barbed needles to adhere fibres to a base fabric. Jennifer uses her own hand dyed sheep's wool to make wool paintings that have a similar feel to watercolour, pen, and ink. In this workshop students will take an image, break it down, and then transfer it onto their base fabric. Needle felting techniques, colour theory colour blending, creating a palette, layering, will be introduced. To pull out focal points creating visual interest hand stitching will finish off the piece if desired. Framing, felting on different fabrics, and using different fibres will also be discussed.

Each student will go home with their own felt painting framed in an embroidery hoop.

All supplies + materials will be provided.  No experience necessary.
